Alicia was a visionary whose practice centered on themes of familial relationships, beauty, the body, and identity. Her work was distinctive for its use of layered, figurative textile wall hangings, crafted from hand-embroidered and stitched fabrics including dyed cotton, leather, felt, linen, and burlap. Her work also graced the walls of Cheekwood Museum, Nashville TN, USA (2018-2019); Frist Museum, Nashville TN, USA (2016); the Hunter Museum of American Art, Chattanooga TN, USA (2014); Tennessee State Museum, Nashville TN, USA (2014); the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, Australia (2013); the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia PA, USA (2013); South Bend Museum of Art, South Bend IN, USA (2004); the Nashville International Airport, Nashville TN, USA (2002); Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield CT, USA (2002); the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York NY, USA (1997); and the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh PA, USA (1996).

Alongside her profound artistic legacy, Alicia was also a devoted educator, serving as a Professor of Art at Fisk University in Nashville TN, USA, where she inspired countless students and colleagues with her wisdom, passion, and generosity.
