These warriors represents 'Flowers of Africa'. When I started to look at flowers indigenous to the African continent I began to notice that many were becoming endangered species, so I decided to focus my attention on this theme and discover why some of these plants were at risk of extinction. This collection of works is concerned with the ecology and safe keeping of all of the sentient beings of this planet who are affected by environmental changes, urbanisation, displacement from poachers etc. Each warrior carries with her the key to her survival, and that is the seed pods which adorn the cuff on her arm. As with all of my warriors, they have a story to tell which is meant to invite us to think of our relationship to nature and to each other.
Botanical name: Conophytum, native to South Africa and Namibia. At risk due to poaching.
