This small warrior is the Melegueta Pepper (Aframomum melegueta), also known as grains of paradise, ataare (Yoruba), alligator pepper. These plant warrior women are reminding people on the continent what happened some 500 years ago when people were captured and enslaved in the 'new world'. Along with captives on the many ships which sailed from the coastal regions in Africa, foodstuffs were also colonised.
